How to Play Disney Lorcana Pack Rush: A Beginner's Guide
Try Lorcana without preparing a constructed deck. This guide explains Pack Rush setup, the key rule changes and what to check before a session.
Disney Lorcana Pack Rush lets you open boosters and play without preparing a constructed deck. The official format uses two unopened booster packs per player and a 15-lore winning goal. For two players, that means four packs in total. [1, 2]
It is a useful format to consider when you want to try unfamiliar cards with a friend. You still use Lorcana's normal gameplay rules except where the Pack Rush rules specify a change, so a quick introduction to the basics remains worthwhile.
What you need
Set aside two packs for each player, a way to track lore and damage, and the official rules. Packs can come from the same set or different sets; you do not need to arrive with a prebuilt deck. [2]
Our practical suggestion is to keep each player's packs separate until setup is complete. Read the setup sheet together and choose a clear place for the deck, discard, inkwell and cards in play.
Pack Rush setup
The official quick rules and current Comprehensive Rules describe the following setup. [2, 3]
- Determine the starting player and begin at zero lore.
- Open your two packs and set aside the marketing or puzzle cards.
- Shuffle the game cards from both packs together to make your deck.
- Put two marketing cards into your inkwell as ready starting ink.
- Draw a five-card opening hand, using the normal opportunity to alter your opening hand.
The marketing cards used as starting ink are not shuffled into the deck. The Comprehensive Rules also specify that they cannot leave the inkwell or be chosen for effects. [3]
The main differences from regular constructed play
Pack Rush has no deck ink-type restriction: the cards from your packs can be used together rather than being limited to a constructed deck's colour selection. [4]
Your opening hand is smaller, you begin with two ink, and the first player to reach 15 or more lore wins. An empty deck does not cause the normal deck-out loss; instead, shuffle the discard to form a new deck. [3]
One distinction is especially important: unrestricted deck ink types do not make every card inkable. Ordinary inking still normally happens once on your turn and requires the inkwell symbol, unless a card effect changes that. [3]
Make the first session easy to follow
Before starting, we suggest learning the difference between ready and exerted cards, how questing gains lore, and how challenging works. When learning together, read unfamiliar cards aloud and keep damage and lore clearly visible.
Avoid introducing several house rules while also learning the official format. If a question comes up, check the card text and official rules, then agree how to continue. After the game, discuss which decisions were difficult and try again with that experience in mind.
Pack Rush removes the need to prepare a deck beforehand. It does not remove the value of learning the core game actions or mean that every combination of opened cards will play identically.
Checking a Pack Rush session in Singapore
Before joining an organised session, confirm its date, registration process and what entry includes. In particular, check how the required two packs per player are supplied. A product or event title alone is not confirmation of pack quantities, coaching, prizes or an available seat.
